Peckham-born multi-instrumentalist and producer Sam Akpro has announced his first major body of work since his critically acclaimed debut album, Evenfall, released last year via ANTI- Records. The new four-track collection, titled Gauzy, arrives this Friday, October 30th.
The project captures Akpro’s restless creativity over the past year, serving as a transitional bridge between records. Alongside the title track, which features guest vocals from HORNET and blends shoegaze textures with scuzzy lo-fi beats, the EP features previous singles “Dusty” and his collaboration with London soul artist TYSON, “Wayside.”
Reflecting on the sonic and thematic direction of the title track, Akpro shared:
‘Gauzy’ represents stepping into the unknown and dealing with the change that brings. When I made the instrumental, it felt very transitional – as if each section was a different part of a TV show. The lyrics kind of follow that. The whole project is reflective of the last year, which has been a rebuild of some sorts.
To celebrate the release, Akpro will play an intimate launch show tonight (Thursday, October 29th) at The Greyhound in Peckham, featuring support from Riot and the Ether and a DJ set from Kieran Dotwav.
