Today, Divorce has just released their latest single ‘My Room’, marking the second new track from the Nottingham quartet this year. Following their March single ‘Gears’, ‘My Room’ further showcases their collaboration with producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, Foals, and Wolf Alice).
In addition to the release, the band have also announced an extensive UK tour scheduled for October. The tour will commence with a sold-out four-night residency at Nottingham’s Bodega and will conclude with their largest headline show to date at London’s Islington Assembly Hall.
With a subdued yet gradually intensifying tension and a vulnerable heart, ‘My Room’ is another step towards Divorce’s grand and adventurous ambitions. Of the track, vocalist and bassist Tiger Cohen-Towell states
My Room is an ode to unconditional love. These lyrics are truly some of the most emotionally vulnerable I think I’ve written to date; it speaks of a deep desire to be relaxed about showing affection toward someone that you know extremely well. I think familiarity can be scary at times, and being truly seen can make you throw walls up between yourself and the people you want to be closest to.
They continue:
We had a group of wonderful kids singing on the last chorus, the children’s voices I think adds both naïveté and heaviness to the track. This really summarises the feeling we wanted to achieve with this song. It’s like being back in your childhood bedroom and crying and not really knowing why. But it’s joyous too!
Divorce have garnered significant attention from tastemakers heading into 2024, receiving international media support and securing a spot on the BBC 6 Music playlist. The band has been actively touring this year, supporting Bombay Bicycle Club, The Vaccines, and Everything Everything, following the success of their acclaimed Heady Metal EP in 2023. The EP was praised for its poignant exploration of insecurity, offering introspective reflections on self-acceptance. Their limited-edition Record Store Day vinyl repress sold out of all 500 copies last month.
