Australian, now Brighton-based indie rockers The Wattles share the elegant new single ‘Fooled’, the title track from their new 4 track EP.
Capturing an essence of Beth Orton with an added indie rock flare comparable to Elbow and The National, the band capture an expressive, emotive and exhilarating gradual build on ‘Fooled’ that showcases a radiant sense of musicality. Built around organic textures and instrumentation with warming piano and muted drums, the track grows through it’s contemplative vocal delivery, unfurling as the melody lifts. The drums pick up steam and fuzzy guitar tones pull the track foward with a sense of purpose before reaching an explosive climax.
The full 4-track EP, produced by acclaimed producer Simon Berckelman at Golden Retriever Studios in Sydney, comes after the band won a coveted recording opportunity. This release marks a significant milestone in their career, highlighting their artistic growth and potential.
Lucy Murray, the band’s frontwoman, shared insights into the creation of the track: “I wrote the track a couple of years ago, first on piano, and then the band added their parts. It really changed up the energy when James added his guitar. The song talks about people who are obsessed with social media in a dystopic way and the off-putting subtle nature of consumerism on these platforms.”
The Wattles have quickly established themselves in the Australian live music scene, performing over fifty shows and several festivals. They have also supported internationally recognised artists like Reggie Watts, Gordi, and Ash Grunwald. Having garnered significant attention in both UK and Australian media and since relocating to the UK, The Wattles have headlined shows in both Brighton and London.
