Hull’s bdrmm, are back with a bang, releasing their latest single, ‘John on the Ceiling,’ and announcing their highly anticipated third album, ‘Microtonic’, set for release on February 28th via Mogwai’s revered Rock Action label.

‘John on the Ceiling’ captures the essence of late-night euphoria, foreshadowing a new era for bdrmm. Inspired by their support slot for Daniel Avery and their unforgettable experience at Field Day, the band delved deeper into dance music elements, seamlessly blending them with their signature sound.

While the seeds of ‘John on the Ceiling’ were sown early in their career, it wasn’t until now that bdrmm have possessed the confidence and expertise to fully realise its potential. This propulsive single not only sets the stage for the rest of Microtonic but also marks a significant leap forward for the band, solidifying their position as one of the most exciting acts on the UK music scene.

Vocalist and guitarist Ryan Smith states of the track:

The themes surrounding John on the Ceiling are that of confusion and doubt. When something ends and another starts, you lure yourself into a false sense of security that the mistakes made won’t happen again. This happens over and over until you are paralysed in limbo. Can people ever truly change?

Recorded with longtime collaborator Alex Greaves and featuring guest appearances from Sydney Minsky Sargeant of Working Men’s Club and Olivesque of Nightbus, Microtonic is a bold and ambitious 10-track album. The Hull-based quartet have pushed the boundaries of their sound, embracing a wider range of tones and atmospheres to create a truly captivating listening experience.

The band have also today announced a 2025 UK and Europe tour in support of the album.
