StreetWave Media presents an exclusive interview with hip hop artist, Greatness located in Dublin, Georgia.
1. What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?
I’m a Virgo so I have this need to be creative and music is something I fell in love with at a very young age so when I was old enough to actually pursue that’s when the journey really started…that had to be around ‘05/’06
2. What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?
My music is not regional as far as sound per se it’s more about blending a southern style with jazz/soulful sounds so there’s a lot of instruments on occasion you can’t really put me in a box regionally as far as sound goes. it’s not southern it’s not strictly east/west coast or mid western…it’s just me
3. If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?
I honestly want to collaborate with an orchestra…do something massive but beautiful
4. What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?
Advantage: Creative Freedom Disadvantage: Not having that machine to do some of the leg work
5. Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?
Indie honestly the percentages are better monetarily and again creative freedom
6. Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?
I don’t really have a favorite but it’s probably 1 of the more introspective records like “Let Violins Sing” the Cold Winter tape or “Heart 2” from This Iz Not A Drill and then there’s “SMTM2 Intro”
7. Do you miss the era of CD sales OR do you prefer the new wave of music streaming? Explain…
CD sales were a huge thing coming up there was nothing like ripping the plastic off of an album and reading the liner notes while digesting the music…streaming cool tho it’s more accessible
8. Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?
Creating in the studio because it’s just you and your thoughts…your pen and pad or phone notepad if you’re a writer…and the beats
9. During your entire journey through the music business, what would you consider your Worst experience?
I lost an entire album once because the computer crashed but other than that it’s all about not dwelling on mistakes or if a record didn’t do what you thought it would and taking everything as a learning experience and an opportunity for growth
10. What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?
Getting Thiz Iz Not A Drill off and people taking to it the way they did because I was coming off of an 6 year hiatus and 6 years is a long time in music it’s an ever changing field
