Soft Loft are setting the tone of 2025 with their new single Leave The Light On – and what a mesmerizing start it is! This is just a taste of their brand new EP, Modern Roses, set for release on April 25 via [PIAS] Recordings.
The Switzerland-based group has already paved the way with their well-received debut album, The Party And The Mess, and their integration into the [PIAS] international network. The band’s earlier works, such as the self-released EP In Case You Get Lonely, paved the way for their forthcoming surge into the music industry, having also received airplay on KEXP and performances at high-profile festivals, including The Great Escape and Reeperbahn.
With a nostalgic haze, Leave The Light On feels like the perfect summer soundtrack, as seen in the music video filmed in Röhrsdorf by Byron Trieb. The lyrics explore the emotional complexity of a relationship that lingers unresolved, caught between the need to move on and the struggle to let go. The song captures unfinished business, with its upbeat tone making it perfect for those summer blues. The simple image of ‘keeping the light on with the water in the pot’ highlights how small remnants of a past relationship can keep emotional ties alive. The dreamy, melancholic vibe fits their expansive indie-pop style.
Of the single, vocalist Jorina Stamm states;
The light is never really out, and they keep falling back to each other, but never really in a good way, there’s always a little bit of water left in the kettle to keep it boiling. It’s that fine line between something good and something you never want to go back to. And you keep on wishing for that person to just turn the light off.
