WILDES And St Francis Hotel Unveil New Single, ‘In The Floodlight.’

Today heralds the release of the single ‘In The Floodlight’, the collaborative brainchild of singer/songwriter WILDES and St Francis Hotel, the moniker for producer Declan Gaffney. ‘In The Floodlight’ is an anthemic soundtrack to a fading adolescence and the attempted excavation of our true selves, which submerges the listener in what can only be described as an atmospheric cloak of sound.

The siren-like vocals of Ella Walker, the musician behind WILDES, are eerily beautiful, and this, when compounded with the searingly, sycophantic employment of synths, serves to craft a single which is not only elegantly arranged but also utterly hypnotising. With observable nods to eighties synth giants, such as The Human League and Depeche Mode, the single seamlessly marries electronica and melancholia into one neat brooding package. The single’s climax is founded upon a flourishing of such synths, with Walker’s vocals being nothing short of bewitching.

Despite Walker having regularly worked with Gaffney in previous projects, such as her critically acclaimed debut album, Walker stated that this particular collaboration is founded upon the pair’s mutual experiences. Of her artistic relationship with Gaffney, Walker states;

Though regularly collaborating for various projects, we chose to come together for this EP because of our shared experience and grounding in the emotive meaning behind the songs. Exploring and getting lost in our own minds, being shut out of the minds of others, and trying to navigate the world at the behest of our subconscious.

‘In The Floodlight’ is a successful, kaleidoscopic blend of synth, pounding percussion and Walker’s haunting vocals. WILDES and St Francis Hotel’s forthcoming EP, Kopfkino, released on the 19th of February, promises to be an impassioned release if their newest single is anything to go by.
