2025 is seeing Lucy Dacus grow from strength to strength: only months from six Grammy nominations with Boygenius, Dacus is again making waves with her fourth solo release. Her new solo record, Forever Is A Feeling is set to land in late March (28th), though Dacus has shared two tastes of material from the upcoming release.
Dacus’ double drop comes in the contrasting shapes of ‘Ankles’ and ‘Limerence’. The former cut feels wrought with desire and tension: cinematic strings are paired with lyrics palpable with their themes of longing and lust. “So bite me on the shoulder, pull my hair,” Dacus sings over a minimalist beat with sparklingly ethereal guitar: “Pull me by the ankles to the edge of the bed, and take me like you do in your dreams.” The cut dropped alongside a video starring Havana Rose Liu.
‘Limerence’ is something of a piano ballad, with Dacus stretching her vocal muscles to superb effect. There are more cinematic strings here, and Dacus shows off her innate ability to drench her tones in melancholy: each word conveys the weight of Dacus’ emotion to devastating effect. Speaking on the release, Dacus says
I got kicked in the head with emotions. Falling in love, falling out of love. You have to destroy things in order to create things. And I did destroy a really beautiful life.
This theme of emotional booting is rife in the sentiments of the two released cuts.
Forever Is A Feeling is a compendium of collaborations, featuring a multitude of talent. Dacus’ Boygenius bandmates, Pheobe Bridgers and Julien Baker, feature, as do Hozier, Blake Mills, Bartees Strange, Madison Cunningham, Collin Pastore, Jake Finch, and Melina Duterte of Jay Som.
As if this wasn’t enough, Dacus is hitting the road supporting her upcoming record. Her North American tour kicks off in April, with Dacus heading through Philadelphia, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Dallas and more before a finale in Los Angeles. The host city of Dacus’ final spot is also the subject of a charitable endeavour from the artist: Dacus has announced a partnership with Plus1, where $1 per ticket sale provides relief for those affected by the LA wildfires.
