Valentine’s Day is here, and I don’t know about you, but nothing gets me hyped for the lovers’ holiday more than a sensual, slow-burning track that is packed to the brim with soul and dreamy melodies. That’s why I’m so fortunate that Paul Crupi, a Canadian virtuoso with a gift for genre mixology, has just released his new single, ‘i got you.’

I’ve been a fan of Paul Crupi ever since I discovered his 2022 single ‘Lemonade’, where I found an artist who doesn’t just have velvet-woven vocals but also a flavour of storytelling that celebrates introspection, raw emotion, and admission. His work has a deeply resonant, vulnerable quality that, when married with the enthralling textures of ‘i got you,’ creates an intoxicatingly intimate soundscape.

With that in mind, I have no doubt that you’re eager to delve deep into Paul’s new single. After you!

i got you.

Immediately, you’re hit with the bright, crisp timbres of the drums, dropping you into the introductory instrumentals like a trapdoor opening beneath your feet. To cushion your fall into this silken spill of sultriness, you’re caught up in a smooth, viscid flirtation between the purring bass and the andante flow of the drums.

A drop of honeyed gold atop the serene instrumentals, Paul Crupi’s vocals surface the track like how candle embers surface from a lit wick. His voice is full of unhurried warmth, embellishing the instrumental harmonies with soft flickers of tenderness that beautifully contrast the rich croons of the bass.

After that initial chorus, Paul’s vocals make a whetstone out of the instrumentation and become a much sharper addition to the track. With this clarity, you can really hear the debonair, rhythmic charm of Paul’s R&B influences. It’s this quality of Paul’s style that makes his lyrics intriguing. ‘When the night feels heavy, and I can’t breathe / And the walls start closing in on me / You’re the only one that makes me feel sane.’ With lyrics like that, you can feel the claustrophobia, the shrinking spaces, and the all-encompassing dark. Sounds like quite an unpleasant feeling, right? Not when Paul Crupi is the one singing those lyrics.

The way he delivers the lyrics in this single is like he’s painting with cursive shadows, and what would otherwise feel quite intense feels like soft, quiet passion. Adorned with the amorous cat-and-mouse game of melodies between the instrumentals, this track inspires imagery in my mind that surprised me. To me, this single dances along the fringes of intimacy. The lyrics; the prelude of touch. The instrumentals; the hushed whispers of romance. The vocals; singeing rose petals, and longing desires.

It is such an interesting take on a love song because, as a listener, you feel both the potential for and the passion of epic love, but there’s a degree of uncertainty that I feel exists in the gorgeously hazy instrumentation. This is the beauty of Paul’s incredibly human writing style, ‘i got you.’ He knows how to truly capture the complexity of emotion, and is there any emotion more complex than love?

As the track progresses, you fall deeper into an intricately layered ocean of mesmerism, with the chorus lyrics lapping over one another like echoing waves. These waves carry you to the track’s diminuendo, a sudden instrumental cadence that isolates Paul’s vocals for the last word of the final lyric: ‘you.’

What a way to end the track with that breathtaking emphasis on the lover alluded to in this track. It’s the perfect final touch to a song that oozes devotion and intimacy.

Paul Crupi

After listening to Paul Crupi’s music, whether you’re enjoying, ‘i got you’ or brightening up your day with his eponymous 2017 EP, you can tell that Paul has over 15 years of experience as an original songwriter.

Paul’s talents and passion for crafting honest, unrestrained narratives have spearheaded a wonderful music career that is studded with successes. In 2019, Paul embarked on a journey of melodic evolution with his project ‘TwoSails,’ forming the first footprints along a trail of hypnotically lulling harmonies, syrupy ambiences, and addictive instrumentals.

Between 2019 and now, Paul has released a rivulet of bops, including the heart-splintering single ‘Crawl’ and the emotionally prismatic album, ‘Home.’ The allure of Paul’s relatable music is so palpable that in 2024 (the only year he hadn’t released music since 2020), his outreach showed no signs of slowing down. The resonance of his music was heard in over 80 countries, so it’s really no surprise that his Spotify listener base grew by over 100%!

With tracks like ‘i got you.’ and more singles on the way, I have a sneaky feeling that 2025 is going to be another year of success and growth for Paul Crupi. Let’s kickstart this growth, shall we?

‘i got you.’ is available to listen to on all major problems as of today!

Till next time.
