Lazarus Lake Is ‘Someone New’ Worth Listening To

Lazarus Lake’s new single “Someone New” is labeled a country song, but it could easily nestle in the ears of anyone who likes rock and Americana, too, with a style reminiscent of country crossover titans Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell. To quote a beloved country song famously covered by the former, the song is as smooth as Tennessee whiskey and as sweet as strawberry wine.

Really, truly, it’s hard to imagine anyone not liking this alt country song. Fuzzy electric rhythm guitar and an infectious pedal steel lead drive a fine vocal performance and relatable lyrics that should resonate with anyone who’s ever been done dirty by a cheater.

“I wrote this song when my friend Leah broke up with her now ex-boyfriend who cheated on her,” says Michael Jones, the singer-songwriter behind the new project. “I got really angry, thinking of my mom’s awful boyfriends over the years and my own bad breakups. This is the first single in a release cycle leading up to my debut album releasing in late spring.”

Lazarus Lake proves anger can be channeled into a great hook on “Someone New,” and we’re excited to hear the rest of the album. This new artist is definitely someone worth listening to.
