Kitty wrote Sympathy Pains as a response to a friend who was relying on her like a therapist, which caused her own mental health to suffer, leading to the phrase ‘sympathy pains’. A lot of people have probably been in a similar situation at some point. It can be tough when a close friend expects you to fulfill different roles for them. Ultimately, their problems aren’t yours.
