Small Talk was born out of DiVenere’s yearning for more than brief conversations with her crush. She admits, “My imagination took off, and I found myself longing for something akin to a John Hughes-style romantic movie about hidden love, complete with a boombox beneath my window and a mixtape of his favorite songs.” Therefore, this song essentially revolves around the theme of longing for a deeper connection and romantic gestures in a fledgling relationship.
