Zelma Stone releases her new EP, A Dance, which includes the song Be Free. And it’s quite a heavy one when you consider the lyrics. Emotions overflow, searching for a way to reach your heart. Stone talks here with her deceased brother, Brett, and her deceased friend, Jenny. Both died suddenly and too young. Jenny(21) lost her life in the ghostship Oakland fire and Brett(19) lost his life in a car accident at 14 years old. Life is so, so unfair sometimes.
During this song, Zelma tells the two she misses them and asks if they’re free, or if their bodies still need to be freed. The instrumentation moves organically, with strong vocals anchoring the bridge. Hayden J Frederick plays both Brett and Jenny for the music video. Shooting it was extremely therapeutic and healing.
