Interview with Forrest Of FangHorn

Forrest Of FangHorn is the brand new project from renowned saxophonist, Dale Mangold. The debut album Ents Marching is an eclectic mix of funk rock jazz hip hop and r&b music. Featuring a host of guest musicians and vocalists.

Pittsburgh Pennsylvania

How long have you been making music?
30+ years

What genre would you consider your music to be?
Funk, rock, r&b, jazz

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
The pure passion and happiness in which music brings to me is second to none.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Many influences ranging from Bruce Springsteen, Clarence Clemons to David Bowie, The Police to Red Hot Chili Peppers. Saxophonists such as Clemons, David Sandborn, Maceo Parker.

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
Independent artist

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Getting my music out there to a broader audience. It’s tough for the little indie artists to compete at times.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Forrest of FangHorn is our debut album. I’ve been involved with other bands over the years. Tobacco Road, The Argonauts in addition to doing some session work with various artists.

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
I wanted to write some music that presents a fun vibe with aot of horn section parts. It’s more of a studio project, similar to how Donald Fagen and Walter Becker from Steely Dan would create an album. I brought in over 20 guest musicians and vocalists to appear on various tracks. Also my first 100 % DIY project as well.

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Currently promoting this album and trying to coordinate some live shows to support the release. I’m always writing music if not for Forrest Of FangHorn, then for other side projects.
