Canned Pineapple Shine On Infectious New Single ‘She Says’

Brighton-based quintet Canned Pineapple are back with a bang, delivering their latest infectious single, ‘She Says’ blending elements of early Rolling Stones with The Strokes to great effect. Led by the dynamic duo of Irish vocalist Seán Drury and his songwriting partner Oakley Gardiner, the band’s lineup is rounded out by the talents of multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer Jude Allenby, guitarist Gabe Rice, and drummer Charlie Pringle.

With nods of approval from Radio X, BBC Radio 6 Music, the band have already established themselves as one to watch. Their journey so far in 2024 has alreadys een them play a live session on BBC Introducing, make their international festival debut at New York City’s ‘New Colossus Festival’, and the release of their acclaimed track ‘Bowie’.

Produced by Tom Rees (known for his work with Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, The Bug Club, and Panic Shack) and mastered by Eddie Al-Shakarchie, ‘She Says’ is a testament to Canned Pineapple’s signature scuzz-pop and slacker rock sound. Delivering a quirky, fun soundscape characterised by fuzzy guitar tones, upbeat drums, and plucky bass-lines, the track sets the stage for Sean Drury’s distinctive, lazy yet captivating lead vocals. The track captures the essence of their electrifying live performances while infusing vibrant, euphoric tones into its songwriting, complete with irresistible melodies and garage rock undertones. Despite its upbeat facade, the song’s lyricism carries a subtle yearning undertone, adding depth to its infectious charm.

Lead singer Seán Drury sheds light on the track’s inspiration, citing influences from rock hero Paul Steel and drawing parallels to the dynamic shifts in Eels’ ‘Susan’s House’. Collaborating with Tom from Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, the production process brought out the essence of the song as a collective effort rather than merely Drury’s creation.
