Somebody’s Child releases their new single, “Irish Goodbye,” today, ahead of their second album When Youth Fades Away, due March 28th via Frenchkiss Records. Following the acclaimed singles “Time Of My Life” and “Last Night I Held Your Hand,” which garnered support from Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, The New Cue, and 1883 Magazine, anticipation is building for the upcoming record. Uncut Magazine has already praised When Youth Fades Away as “a reimagining of the Irish coming-of-age story,” noting Godfrey’s exploration of “the redemptive power of romance.”

“Irish Goodbye,” named for the act of leaving a social gathering without farewell, explores this concept through the lens of an adult reflecting on their youth. The song expresses regret for taking youth for granted and never properly saying goodbye to childhood before rushing into adulthood. As When Youth Fades Away explores the coming-of-age narrative, “Irish Goodbye” serves as the album’s powerful mission statement.

Of the track, Godfrey states,

Irish Goodbye’ is a breath of fresh air within the album itself, and exemplifies the tone and theme of the album best, in my opinion, from a lyrical standpoint. It highlights the transient nature of time, and on some level, it perhaps describes the parting of youth, without notice, at some point, unbeknownst to us.

As excitement mounts for Somebody’s Child’s second album, When Youth Fades Away (March 28th, Frenchkiss Records), the band has announced UK in-store appearances and a subsequent German tour. See details below.
