Manchester risers pyncher have officially announced their signing to the cult label Heist or Hit (home to Westside Cowboy and Her’s) alongside the release of their thrilling new single, ‘One Day.’ Fresh off an acclaimed set at the BBC 6 Music Festival, the quartet has delivered a track that crackles with “static-electricity,” blending the drum-machine-driven urgency of The Strokes with the fuzzed-out rawness of Ty Segall. Recorded with producer Alex Greaves at The Nave in Leeds, the song is a masterclass in distortion, featuring a standout, “obscurely fried” solo birthed from a chance encounter with a broken pedal.

Of the single, vocalist Sam Blakely states,

The song is about people growing apart. And how you can’t really do much to stop it happening. There’s longing in the lines but also acceptance. We all change and grow and I think this song is me getting my head around that.

Lyrically, ‘One Day’ finds Sam Blakeley navigating the bittersweet reality of people growing apart. The track balances a sense of wistful longing with a mature acceptance of change, translated through a thick wall of layered vocals and blown-out guitars. As central figures in a revitalised Manchester scene alongside acts like TTSSFU and Martial Arts, the band is already commanding significant attention. With a European tour supporting The Sophs on the horizon and a heavy summer festival schedule, ‘One Day’ serves as a high-octane mission statement for a band rapidly ascending the UK indie ranks.

The band’s rise is bolstered by a wave of critical acclaim from The Guardian, DIY, and The Line of Best Fit, signalling their transition from local live favourites to national contenders. By leaning into “white heat saturation” and experimental textures, pyncher have successfully captured their ferocious live reputation within the confines of a three-minute studio explosion. As they prepare to take their distorted, “drum-machine-driven” sound across the continent, the signing to Heist or Hit marks the start of a definitive new chapter for one of Manchester’s most exciting exports.
