Temples Venture Into Electronic Territory with New Single ‘Blue Flame’

Kettering psychedelic-rock stalwarts Temples have released their adventurous new single, “Blue Flame,” offering a dream-like preview of their upcoming studio album, BLISS, arriving June 26th via V2 Records. Moving past the initial success of earlier cuts “Jet Stream Heart” and “Vendetta,” the track blends the group’s foundational psych roots with late ’90s and early 2000s European electronic influences. The announcement lands alongside the confirmation of an extensive global tour, featuring a high-profile slot at Latitude Festival and a run of UK headline dates this November.

“Blue Flame” marks a bold, liberated step forward for the four-piece, who describe the track as a cautionary tale of human separation in an increasingly tech-reliant world. Following heavy rotation on BBC 6 Music and immediate critical acclaim, the new single expands their psych-rock roots through the prism of classic European electronica. By combining simple frameworks with layered, complex textures, the song taps into a sense of “melancholic euphoria,” drawing on the atmospheric and emotional pull of foundational dance acts like Underworld and Faithless.

Of the single, the band comment,

“We shelter ourselves from the elements, connecting with technology rather than nature, ‘Blue Flame’ is a cautionary tale of separation, both from each other as human beings, and from the world as a whole.”

The upcoming album, BLISS, represents a major creative shift from 2023’s Exotico, seeing the band take on production duties themselves to foster a completely instinctive, hands-on environment. Working together in the same room, Temples used hardware samplers to manipulate and reassemble their own live instrumentation into a shared, fluid palette. This self-contained approach has resulted in an interconnected, collage-like record driven entirely by their collective chemistry. Fans can catch the new material live on the road later this year, including a highly anticipated headline show at London’s Scala.
