Folk singer Seán Feeney returns with his latest single, Wildflowers, an ode to the painful yet unavoidable impermanence of people and memories.

The track revolves around the idea of trying to hold onto moments and people that never truly remain. Built around the repeated question, “Why do these Wildflowers disappear at night?”, it reflects on fleeting connections, loneliness, and the cycle of people returning just when they seem gone forever.
“This song came from thinking about people who pass through your life for a short time but stay with you long afterwards. There’s a feeling in the song of wanting something to last while already knowing it probably won’t. I think most people have experienced that in some way,” – said Feeney about the track.
Featuring Donegal-based cellist Laura McFadden, Wildflowers unfolds through a soothing arrangement that highlights the emotional depth of Seán Feeney’s songwriting. The gentle acoustic instrumentation, paired with the cello’s melancholic presence, gives the track a deeply reflective vibe without losing its candidness. The production feels restrained in all the right ways, allowing the emotions behind the lyrics to remain at the forefront.
The accompanying music video, directed by Charlie Joe Doherty and filmed around the Fanad Peninsula, perfectly complements the song’s tone. Quiet roads, isolated landscapes, and expansive scenery mirror the feeling of searching for something that always seems slightly out of reach.
