With the release of her third full-length studio album, Americana artist Molly Brandt unveils her most ambitious work yet, Museum of Being.
Molly Brandt – Museum of Being
Hailing from the Twin Cities in Minnesota, Molly Brandt has steadily established herself as a rising figure in the independent Americana scene. Known for her vivid narratives and imaginative songwriting, Brandt first turned to songwriting during the pandemic. After years of studying classical piano, she picked up a guitar and discovered a deep connection with roots music, opening the door to an entirely different creative direction.
After releasing her first singles in 2022, Molly Brandt quickly followed with her debut albums Surrender to the Night (2023) and American Saga (2024). The latter helped expand her audience when one of its songs was featured in the Netflix series The Hunting Wives. Those achievements laid the foundation for the Museum of Being, a record that represents another significant step forward in her career.
Both musically and conceptually, Museum of Being stands as Molly Brandt’s most ambitious project. The album explores how memories, nostalgia, and the passage of time shape who we become, presenting the idea that every person is a museum filled with exhibits from their own life experiences.
The title track, Museum of Being, introduces that concept beautifully. What begins as a reflective acoustic piece driven by delicate arrangements and Brandt’s expressive vocals gradually evolves into something far more intense. The song builds with purpose, transforming from a tender reflection into a striking, dramatic finale.
The Library immediately broadens the album’s sonic palette. Moving away from the traditional guitar-driven Americana approach, the track embraces experimental production, layered backing vocals, and a hypnotic drum loop. The result is a striking contrast that highlights Molly Brandt’s willingness to explore different textures.
One Helluva Country reconnects with the foundations of Americana, featuring twang-infused guitars and a strong sense of tradition. At the same time, subtle vocal effects and modern production choices prevent the song from feeling rooted solely in the past, creating an appealing balance between classic and contemporary influences.
That balance becomes even more pronounced on Do You Possess An Iron Will? The track leans into psychedelic territory, blending Americana elements with atmospheric sounds that create what could best be described as a dreamlike western landscape. Beyond its musical appeal, the song also reflects Brandt’s social awareness. Written during the ICE occupation of Minnesota, it emerged from her reflections on courage, resistance, and the meaning of confronting brutality and authoritarianism.
Continuing the album’s sense of variety, The Passing of Time (is Cruel and Unforgiving) unfolds as a slow-burning composition, enriched by touches of soul and a stunning saxophone performance that sends shivers down the spine.
As noted throughout the album, Molly Brandt consistently merges innovation with respect for her Americana and country roots. That connection is especially evident on Grizzly Rose, one of the record’s standout moments. Featuring a collaboration with her father, Blake Brandt, the song carries an added sense of authenticity that makes it particularly memorable.
Closing the album, Crystalline Vision, Memento Reverie serves as a fitting conclusion to this collection of songs. Its immersive production creates the perfect backdrop for Brandt’s vocal performance, bringing the record to a thoughtful and satisfying close.
At its heart, Museum of Being offers a little something for every listener, skillfully balancing tradition and modernity to create an album full of compelling contrasts.
To call Museum of Being simply impressive would undersell its achievements, as its rich production and memorable country-inspired passages make it a record that invites return listens.
