Dublin outfit Basht. have shared their latest single, “Keira Knightley,” offering a powerful new glimpse into their highly anticipated debut studio album, Poor Advice, arriving October 9th via LAB Records. Produced by the acclaimed Ali Chant (Dry Cleaning, PJ Harvey), the track is a charged, emotionally heavy post-punk cut that tackles desperation and heartbreak. The release adds further momentum to an impressive year for the band, who have built a fierce live reputation on the road alongside Wunderhorse, DEADLETTER, and Everything Everything.

“Keira Knightley” follows hot on the heels of their recent single “Perfume,” expanding on that track’s pitch-black subject matter and looming atmospheres to offer a new, more expansive sonic flavour. The single thrives on a sense of quiet patience that explodes into raw power, a testament to producer Ali Chant’s ability to help the band turn internal reflection into massive indie-rock crescendos. Conceptually, the song uses a famous cinematic nod to dissect the agonising, messy end of a romance, tracking a partnership as it slowly devolves from exciting infatuation into jealousy and resentment.

Of the single, the band’s Jack Leavey states,

This song is about the desperate lengths people go to in an effort to save a relationship. ‘I’ll call you daily / hold you tightly / ring your bell like Keira Knightley’ [a reference to the movie Love Actually]. It’s about a relationship I had that started off being incredibly exciting and loving but then slowly devolved into jealousy, desperation and resentment. Sonically we wanted to push the dial out from what we’ve previously released and give people a new flavour of Basht. and a hint of what’s to come.

The momentum behind Poor Advice highlights Basht. as one of the most exciting acts emerging from Ireland’s rich alternative landscape. Having spent the past year commanding festival stages across the UK and Europe, including standout sets at The Great Escape, Dot To Dot, Live at Leeds, and Other Voices, the five-piece has honed a knockout live presence that matches the sharp emotional weight of their studio recordings.
