North West indie quartet Movin’ On continue their rise with the release of their reflective second single, ‘How We Used To’, arriving 29th May. Following the success of their debut single ‘Absolutely’, which earned national attention and a play from Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music, the new track sees the band take another confident step forward, showcasing the depth of their songwriting and growing potential.
Blending emotionally honest lyricism with a driving indie energy, ‘How We Used To’ captures the raw intensity of Movin’ On’s live performances while highlighting their ability to create songs that feel both personal and universally relatable. Elijah Jenkins’ distinctive lead vocals sit at the heart of the track, soaring above a guitar-led backdrop to deliver a sound that feels intimate, sincere and unmistakably their own.
Discussing the inspiration behind the single, Elijah explains:
“How We Used To is about forgetting the bad times with a certain person in your life and reflecting on the nostalgia of the good times. I wrote it between my second and third year at university in Manchester, reflecting on the past year and things that had happened. You know you’re better off without the person but you still remember the good times and there’s that part of you that wonders ‘if you play pretend’ it’ll all be alright.”
Originally formed as a solo project by singer and guitarist Elijah Jenkins, Movin’ On have quickly developed into a powerful four-piece, transforming their early acoustic foundations into a bigger, louder and more collaborative indie sound. The band have built a reputation across the North West for energetic live shows that combine emotional storytelling with a sharp guitar-driven edge.
The band’s name, created during a WhatsApp conversation, perfectly reflects the themes that run through their music – nostalgia, escapism and the determination to keep moving forward.
With appearances at Deva Fest, Noisy Weekender and several This Feeling showcases across the North West, Movin’ On’s momentum continues to grow. Their debut full-band single ‘Absolutely’ surpassed 30,000 streams and picked up national radio support, before the band celebrated the release with a sold-out debut headline show at The Jacaranda in Liverpool.
With ‘How We Used To’, Movin’ On further establish themselves as one of the North West’s most exciting emerging indie acts, delivering a track that balances reflection and intensity while proving there is plenty more to come from the rising quartet.
