Introducing Alice Rose Lyn
I’m awake again. It’s too early to be anything but alone with my thoughts. As I mindlessly scroll through TikTok, a clip stops me in my tracks. A voice, raw, aching with emotion. That artist is Alice Rose Lyn.
Alice Rose Lyn is an independent singer-songwriter based in Olympia, Washington. Her music blends Pacific Northwest folk with ghost-story Americana, exploring themes of grief and memory.
Her Spotify bio describes her songs like messages carved into wet wood- fragile, aching and hard to erase, and this feels accurate once you have heard Alice Rose Lyn; it’s unlikely you will ever be able to unhear her or erase her from your memory. Her music is bewitching.
It’s at 2 minutes 44 seconds into her track Gotta Get Up that Alice Rose Lyn arrives in my world. The twangling bends of her guitar strings cut through the silence of my early morning room, and her guttural roar courses around my body and heads straight for my heart.
“At night time I can’t sleep at all; at dawn I just stare at the wall, I can’t speak or make any sound like something keeps pinning me down.
Sometimes I can’t get out of bed; I feel more pain and loss ahead. My body is so curled up tight like a fist, expecting a fight. I don’t know what to do right now, gotta get up, but don’t know how.” Alice Rose Lyn
Upon further investigation, I discover her musical output began in 2025; in less than 2 years, she has quietly amassed a body of work that some might call prolific. There are two EPs and one full-length album alongside 10 singles; while there is some obvious duplication with waterfall releases, there is enough here to confirm my instincts: Alice Rose Lyn is a talent that deserves your prolonged attention.
My recommendation: Start at the beginning with her debut EP, Obituary for Anna Jean; it’s an accomplished first outing that quietly builds to a beautiful climax on Don’t Leave Us Alone.
Earlier this year, Alice Rose Lyn shared a 9-track debut album, The Girl I Was. Her storytelling is compelling with little more than a voice and a guitar; she compels you to listen to every word. It’s relatable and always heartfelt.
There is a consistent quality to her work that endures. Her latest single, Homecoming, is a story of self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-acceptance; in moments, there are shades of Sarah McLachlan in her vocals and storytelling.
Writing a music blog often feels like being the first footprints on the beach, and this is one of those moments. Alice Rose Lyn is a true, undiscovered gem, and it surely can’t stay that way for long. A Spotify Index Score of 26% is an indicator of early momentum, but right now she has less than 10,000 monthly listeners.
On her single ‘Somethings Got Hold of Me’, she expresses the struggle and frustration of being an independent artist:
“I’m always on the outside, no matter how hard I try, my music won’t break through, maybe it’s never meant to.”
Let’s hope the world wakes up to the talent of Alice Rose Lyn. If you love her music, hit the share button and pay it forward.
