London art-pop provocateurs HMLTD have ended a three-year hiatus with the release of their new single, “Blitzkrieg”—their first music since 2023’s critically acclaimed sophomore concept album, The Worm. Mixed by Nicos Kennedy (known for his work with Machine Girl and Femtanyl), “Blitzkrieg” is an abrasive, confrontational assault that violently shifts gears before dissolving into a melancholic piano coda. The track heralds a brand-new visual and sonic chapter for the four-piece (comprising Theo Spark, Andrei Martynchyk, Henry Spychalski, and Duc Peterman), which they have dubbed GÖTHERDÄMMERUNG, or ÜberGöth.
The band described the single as a direct return to the radical, uninhibited ethos of their earliest days:
“Blitzkrieg is our first single in three years, and a reinstatement of intent and the values which defined our early manifesto: it is a return to radical experimentation, violent confrontation, and music as revolt.”
Designed as a form of gothic insurrection within today’s landscape of hyperreality, AI, and techno-capitalist acceleration, the project resurrects historical motifs, vampires, witches, plague pits, and ruined castles to confront and map modern anxieties.
The single arrives alongside an official music video showcasing the group’s striking new visual universe. To celebrate the launch, HMLTD will perform an intimate underplay show at London’s Club Cheek on October 26th, with further tour dates expected to be announced shortly.
