Kaz Murphy’s new track “Making Noise” deserves a listen.
Honestly, if you’ve been feeling the crushing weight of everything happening right now, this song hits right where it needs to. Every time you turn on the news, it’s another round of corporate greed, rising gas prices, and grocery bills through the roof because of King Fascist Trump’s reckless tariffs and failed economic policies. While working families get squeezed just to afford basic food, we’re forced to watch Trump act like a narcissistic authoritarian on TV, fanning the flames of global chaos and lining the pockets of his billionaire friends. Meanwhile, ICE continues to terrorize local neighborhoods, tearing families apart and criminalizing vulnerable people. ICE OUT NOW! To top it all off, anyone who dares to stand up and organize against fascism gets demonized as a threat to the state. It makes you feel furious and helpless at the same time. Kaz Murphy is right though, we need to keep making noise. We need to rise up and be loud about it!
Polite reform and quiet posting aren’t cutting it anymore. We’re living through something historical, and staying silent feels like taking a side. Staying silent supports the oppressors. Kaz Murphy gets that completely. He’s not asking us to sign a petition or share a graphic on Instagram; he’s calling for people to actually get out, take to the streets, join the marches, and get involved in direct action.
The song lyric that keeps looping in my head is pretty simple:
“The last thing that I want is silence now.”
You can hear the real emotion in his voice when he delivers it. It’s not polished or fake. It’s raw, tired, angry, and hopeful all at the same time.
Musically, his new song has that classic, timeless folk feel that immediately takes you back to the roots of movement music. It’s simple, direct, and doesn’t hide behind heavy production. My favorite line in the whole track carries the exact same energy as Woody Guthrie’s “This Machine Kills Fascists” guitar, just updated for the world we’re living in right now:
“I’m gonna strum this guitar so hard, you’re gonna hear it at the national guard. Those powers that be should fear it…”
If you’re building a playlist for the drive to a demonstration or just need something to keep your spirits up while fighting the good fight, this fits right in next to legends and modern icons like: Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Jesse Welles, and Carsie Blanton.
