Fontaines D.C. Announce Fifth Album ‘Dopamine Chamber’ and Share Lead Single ‘Marianne’

Grammy-nominated post-punk outfit Fontaines D.C. have officially announced their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, arriving 16th October via XL Recordings. Reconnecting with producer James Ford between London, the English countryside, and Palermo, the 11-track record serves as the follow-up to 2024’s UK platinum-certified Romance. The announcement arrives alongside lead single “Marianne,” which debuts today.

Marking the Dublin band’s most radical transformation to date, Dopamine Chamber sees Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan, and Tom Coll pivot away from the guitar-driven sound of their early records in favour of cold synthesisers, marching drums, triggers, and swooning 1960s Italian pop strings. Written and recorded amidst the modern overwhelm of artificial intelligence, environmental decay, and political volatility, the album examines the mutation of pleasure and existential dread in an algorithmically saturated world.

Contrasting the thematic balance of their previous record, frontman Grian Chatten described the new album as a harsher, more corrupted reflection of contemporary reality:

I think Romance was maybe 60 per cent human and 40 per cent corrupted by automation, and a loss of feeling. This one feels more like 60 per cent corrupted — the mask is wearing the face a little more.

“Marianne” is available to stream across all digital platforms today, with Dopamine Chamber releasing worldwide on October 16th via XL Recordings.
