Exploring themes of growing up, uncertainty and finding your place, London-based band Lyra have unveiled their six-track debut EP, English Weather.

With a good number of singles already in their discography, Lyra are finally releasing their long-awaited debut EP, English Weather, a record that deals with transition, constant shifts and contrasting moments, moving between darkness and warmth, vulnerability and release, as well as the uncomfortable spaces between where we are and where we’re trying to get.
Starting with plenty of energy and good vibes, Way Out blends irresistible riffs with foot-tapping rhythms, complemented by lead singer Jenna’s formidable vocal work. It gives the record a great first step in the right direction, all while depicting the pursuit of fulfillment and the dangers of tying self-worth to external validation.
With the self-titled track, English Weather, things get very interesting, allowing us to see the versatility of Lyra on full display. Coming with a more reflective and poignant approach, the song explores how the people we love continue to exist through the moments and places they leave behind. Nostalgic guitar work and more methodical drumming give the track additional significance, complementing its already heartfelt lyrics.
In Western Standoff, things take another turn. The melancholy is still there, but as the title suggests, Lyra introduce a more western-inspired sound, complete with a stereotypical whistle and twangy guitar that mimic the feel of country music and spaghetti westerns incredibly well. However, the brilliance of the track comes through its songwriting, describing the final moments of a dying relationship as a duel where both parties know they can no longer remain where they currently are.
The next track, Lose It All, brings back the catchiness but in a different way, with ridiculously infectious backing vocals and a persistently delicious bassline that permeates the entire track. This all blooms into a pleasant chorus that is sure to leave more than one listener satisfied.
Alternating once more between catchy moments and more thoughtful passages, Run presents a more cinematic approach, with potent instrumentation that evokes precisely that sensation of precipitation. The song narrates how, even during our darkest moments, we never truly have to carry all that weight alone.
Finally, Calling puts the finishing touch on what has been a great EP so far. In many ways, it is the ultimate sorrowful track, carrying a more serious undertone that is elevated by borderline theatrical instrumentation and arrangements, leaving you with an aching heart by the end.

Through six outstanding tracks, Lyra have come up with their most solid work to date, redefining their creative direction in the process and growing into a new version of themselves.
