Edinburgh songwriter Hamish Hawk has announced his highly anticipated new studio album, Intriguer / Tenderness, serving as the direct follow-up to 2024’s acclaimed LP A Firmer Hand.
The 10-track album is built around a conceptual push-and-pull between two opposing personas: “Intriguer”, a remote, aggressive, and charismatic character, and “Tenderness”, a pliant, troubled, and vulnerable counterpart. Exploring the sparks, infidelities, and power dynamics that occur when these two forces collide, the record tackles themes of ambition, consent, deceit, and lust.
To introduce the album’s dual perspectives, Hawk has released two contrasting lead singles today: the punk-funk strut of “Ice-like Empty” representing Intriguer, alongside the synth-driven title track “Intriguer / Tenderness,” which gives voice to Tenderness.
Reflecting on the cathartic nature of the title track, Hawk explained:
It’s a song that I’m immensely happy with; it was a catharsis, and one that helped me to understand where the album begins and ends, and its thematic limits.
Following the critical success of A Firmer Hand, which earned Album of the Week honours at The Quietus, the dual-single release marks the beginning of Hawk’s most narrative-driven era to date. Both “Ice-like Empty” and “Intriguer / Tenderness” are available to stream across all digital platforms today.
