Fontaines D.C. have released “Tongue,” the second single from their highly anticipated fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, arriving 16th October via XL Recordings. The release is accompanied by an official music video filmed by the band in New York City and directed by John Angus Stewart.
Following the atmospheric release of lead single “Marianne,” “Tongue” showcases a more visceral, experimental side to the upcoming James Ford-produced LP. Moving further away from the raw post-punk guitar textures of their earlier work, the track heavily manipulates studio elements: Conor Deegan altered tape speeds to create a slouchy, hip-hop-influenced bassline, while Carlos O’Connell processed Grian Chatten’s vocals through a sampler to distort their pitch.
Unpacking the band’s studio approach and evolving sound on the track, guitarist Conor Curley explained:
“We continued where Romance left off, leaving the live-band elements until they were really needed.”
Recorded between London, the English countryside, and Palermo, Dopamine Chamber follows 2024’s UK platinum-certified Romance. “Tongue” is available to stream globally now, with Dopamine Chamber available to pre-order ahead of its October 16th release.
