Delivering a good dose of dry humor on a current and relatable issue, Warrington four-piece Punch-in have shared their latest single, Trespassing.
All the way from Warrington, UK, Punch-in are an independent band comprised of friends who have been making music together since their teenage years, without necessarily seeing much success along the way. A plethora of factors, including parenthood, their respective careers, and distance, eventually got in the way, forcing Jack, Oliver, and Declan to take a break for a while. That was until fairly recently, when in late 2025 they replaced their gear and were joined by Jonny on keys, leading to the creation of Punch-in as they are today.
Musically, Punch-in fuse new wave, post-punk and indie rock, drawing influence from the likes of The Cure, Pixies, R.E.M., The Cribs, Smashing Pumpkins, Talking Heads, Weezer and XTC. Their debut song, Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, was released on 30 January 2026. It preceded a sold-out single launch party and debut live show at Warrington venue Peggy McCools, kicking off their renewed sound and artistic direction on the right foot.
Following the singles This Is Not an Intervention, Violent Thoughts and These Are My Friends, Punch-in are ready to keep building on their growing catalogue with their fifth official track, Trespassing. The indie rock track not only tackles a relevant theme with a unique sense of humor, but is also based on a real-life experience. After buying his first house with his partner, vocalist and guitarist Jack Keery received a note from someone who presumably thought they were landlords getting ready to rent the place. This awkward and unconventional moment ultimately gave birth to one of Punch-in’s most interesting works to date.
Speaking about the composition itself, Trespassing stands out for a number of reasons. For starters, the songwriting is a witty display of commentary that does not take itself too seriously, instead opting for a more tongue-in-cheek approach. However, the core of the track relies on its catchy instrumentation, with its guitar work and infectious chorus making it particularly endearing. Quite frankly, I would be surprised if you don’t find yourself humming it all day after listening to it.
Trespassing is an endearingly catchy track, and its many qualities make it a worthwhile listen for anyone looking for an up-and-coming band worth keeping an eye on.
Considering Punch-in have been around for just a year, the band have already managed to establish themselves as an interesting presence in the ever-changing independent music landscape. With five solid tunes already in their repertoire, this emerging band have made a strong start. Now the ball is on their side of the field, so let’s wait to see what their next play will be.
