London quartet Tooth have announced their signing to iconic record label Parlophone alongside the release of their new single, “Take Me As I Am.” The track marks the band’s first release since their critically acclaimed debut EP, Restless in Bloom, released earlier this summer.
Recorded at Battery Studios in London with producer Shrink (NewDad, Cardinals, Opus Kink) and mixed by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice), “Take Me As I Am” fuses driving percussion from Roy Lowe with Sonic Youth-esque guitar work from Ben Ashley and a motorik bassline by Charlie Arnison, led by frontman Tom Pollock’s direct vocals.
Reflecting on the thematic evolution behind their latest songwriting, Pollock shared:
“‘Take Me As I Am’ represents a big development in our songwriting from what we did on Restless In Bloom both lyrically and instrumentally.”
“On the EP, I’d written lyrics exploring coming of age, young romance and other typical teenage tropes. However, with this song I turned to focus on ideas of identity within my experience of being in a band, where people perhaps feel they know or understand me, despite often feeling like I don’t even know or understand myself. The lyrics are conversational, ebbing and flowing between both a desperation to be accepted, and a resentment toward expectations of what or who I should be.”
The release comes as Tooth prepare for an extensive UK tour this autumn, concluding with their largest headline show to date at London’s The Garage on October 27th.
