The ‘Worn’ EP by Venus In Spirals is a genuine, raw approach to self-introspection. The band pride themselves on authenticity and the music they make.
Venus In Spirals – The Worn EP
Manchester alternative rock band Venus In Spirals burst out into the open with their new EP ‘Worn’. In just over twelve minutes of non-stop action, Venus In Spirals make themselves and their intentions known.
The opening track of the EP, ‘I Love My Sweater’, is extremely fun and joyous. The clashing sounds and playful vocal energy are delightful. The chorus is undeniably catchy. The sonic landscape is intentionally loose, and it works. The band want to retain authenticity throughout their music. This shines through on the opening track. ‘Around Colourful Way’ is dominated by powerful collisions from each instrument. The hazy sound reflects the meaning of the lyrics. The singer is clearly lost in their own mind and struggling with the thought of being okay. Again, the chorus is an earworm.
A more thrusting rhythm uplifts us through ‘Turn Away’. The message is intense and is a real depiction of someone struggling to quit. The band deals with addiction, depression and many other illnesses with a very direct approach. The honesty and craftsmanship on display are freakishly heartwarming. The EP is rounded off perfectly by ‘Tuesday Morning’. Arguably the most structured of the four tracks, it highlights the careful consideration the band puts into their project building.
Throughout, there is a true aim in creating a perfectly imperfect collection of thoughts, sounds and messages. This quick insight into Venus In Spirals’ ability to create meaningful, fun music is thrilling from start to finish. The band excite most when performing live; be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming gigs on their Bandsintown page.
Venus In Spirals stay true to themselves, and through it produce a twelve-minute ride unlike any other. Unapologetically themselves and undeniably brilliant. The ‘Worn’ EP is a must-listen.
