The Mad Mile offers a first glimpse of their forthcoming debut album with the release of “Wendy Houses.” The track signals a considered step forward for the group, setting the tone for what is to come.

The Mad Mile – Wendy Houses

Formed in 2024 by Adam Pickering and Matthew Goodbody, The Mad Mile emerged from a shared creative history across previous projects. The band’s name references a childhood road that connected their neighbourhoods, subtly reflecting themes of distance, memory, and connection that surface throughout their work.

Although now based in London, both musicians grew up in industrial Leeds, an upbringing that shaped their musical outlook. That contrast between past and present feeds into songs that explore detachment, isolation, and reflection, while still allowing room for dry humour and a sense of optimism.

Wendy Houses draws directly from this perspective. The track paints a sharp picture of London nightlife, comparing the behaviour of intoxicated, entitled young professionals to children at play. Wrapped in shoegaze and darkwave textures, the song delivers a pointed observation on adult relationships without losing its sense of irony.

Evoking a reflective atmosphere, Wendy Houses unfolds as a compelling listening experience that brings The Mad Mile’s strongest qualities to the surface, from its hypnotic drum patterns to dissonant synths and shadowed guitar lines that quietly settle in the listener’s mind.

Wendy Houses is a well-executed composition, marked by sharp lyricism and an engaging musical approach.

Looking ahead, 2026 is set to be an important year for The Mad Mile with the arrival of their debut album Legroom, scheduled for release on February 27th. The record will be introduced through a run of singles, including Confidence Plus One (January 9th, 2026), Usable Advice (January 30th, 2026), and The Plates, The Candles, The Wine (February 13th, 2026). Keep an eye on The Mad Mile as their next chapter continues to take shape.
