Big Red, the songwriting vehicle led by The Orchestra (For Now) frontman Joseph Scarisbrick, have announced details of their highly anticipated debut studio album, Big Sur, set for release on 30th October.

Originally conceived as a home for material sitting outside the scope of Scarisbrick’s main band, Big Red has expanded into a full three-piece featuring bassist and vocalist Millie Kirby alongside drummer Charlie Hancock. Written across London and Santa Cruz, California during early 2025 before being recorded entirely live in Devon, Big Sur offers a raw exploration of distance, longing, and deconstructed Americana. The record follows their debut single “Isn’t He Funny” and a sold-out headline show at Third Man Records’ Blue Basement in London.

To mark the announcement, the trio have shared their new single “Mission St.” A longtime fixture of their live set, the track balances cyclical guitar picking with warm power chords as Scarisbrick’s vocals deliver an exasperated opening salvo: “I’m alive and so are you / Except you’re barely here.”

Detailing the emotional weight behind the track, Scarisbrick explained:

“It is a sad song masquerading as an upbeat loud banger. It is about seeing someone disappear right in front of you, and having no ability to bring them back. It’s about a very specific person from my childhood. I don’t know how he is doing but I hope he is ok.”

Following a performance at End Of The Road Festival in September, Big Red will embark on their first full headline tour following the album’s release this autumn. “Mission St.” is available to stream across all digital platforms now, with Big Sur releasing October 30th.
