Abby Frenes (she/they) is an Oakland-based queer and non-binary alternative/indie-pop artist. The narrative of Boi revolves around their journey to coming to terms with their non-binary identities in their late twenties. From an early age, Abby recognized their queerness with ease when it came to girls. However, the complexity arose from navigating the experience of being attracted to boys while feeling like a boy.
Boi‘s indie pop production is layered with infectious sounds. I like the way the guitar and keys move. The vocals sound convincing, bringing out the lyrics well. By doing so, they’ve the opportunity to be noticed. The chorus jumps right out of the corner, kicking things into high gear.
