On August 13th, beloved Portland, Oregon recording studio Burn Money Music was destroyed in a devastating fire. The studio, long a hub for PDX hip-hop artists, queer bands, and underdog musicians, is a total loss.
Artists like Logan Lynn, ILoveMakonnen, and Yellow Trash Can have recorded at Burn Money Music. Just a day before the fire, Lynn finished his upcoming album The Pain and The Power there. Thanks to his precaution of backing up sessions, the album survived, though many other artists’ work did not.
To raise funds for the studio’s engineers—suddenly left without work—Lynn has released the first single from the album, “Too Hard,” as a Bandcamp Exclusive, with 100% of proceeds going to recovery efforts. Co-produced with indie artist Kyle Andrews, the synth-heavy pop anthem features a soaring, catchy chorus fans will find themselves singing for days. Its refrain—“I’ve been trying to hold on / To the pain and the power / But it’s too hard, too hard”—captures both resilience and heartbreak in the face of loss.
