TV Priest have announced their highly anticipated third studio album, Cartoons, set for release on November 6th, 2026, via AMK / Kartel Music Group. Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled the record’s lead single, “Love Song (A Good Kind of Weapon).”
The news arrives hot on the heels of June’s comeback single “The Mud Never Dries,” an abrasive, shapeshifting track that marked the band’s first new music in four years. While that initial return collided post-punk with drum and bass and electronic data samples, “Love Song (A Good Kind of Weapon)” showcases a dramatically different side of the group. Incorporating strings, synths, and darting electronic elements, the new track reveals a brooding, candid vulnerability that strips away the band’s usual post-punk artifice.
Vocalist Charlie Drinkwater explains that the single is the band’s first time explicitly tackling romantic themes.
He notes,
“Love motivated us to form the band, yet we’d never written a song exploring romantic love or addressed it as a statement of love to our partners. We wanted to explore how love is both domestic and extraordinary… And, after all, love is a weapon for righteous change and goodness. It’s a statement of resistance when the current world’s mood music seems to be hatred and violence.”
Cartoons marks a distinct sonic evolution from the existential, post-punk framework of their previous full-lengths, 2021’s Uppers and 2022’s My Other People. Emerging from a period of intense self-reckoning, the new album balances TV Priest’s signature philosophical fire with a grander, gentler palette of instrumentation. Listeners can expect to hear piano, fiddle, and fractured bird song recordings woven into the arrangements as the band intentionally deconstructs the boundary between nature and digitalism, drawing comparison to the expansive textures of bands like R.E.M., Radiohead, The National, and Foals.
