Xodiak Rose, Shane Ivan Nash, and Ryan Cassata collaborated to coordinate a vigil and march in honor of Nex Benedict on Sunday, February 25th, 2024. Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old Choctaw non-binary student, tragically lost their life following a violent incident at their Oklahoma High School. Nex Benedict’s mother revealed that they had endured bullying within the school district for over a year. Hundreds of individuals congregated at the West Hollywood United Church of Christ, filling the pews and overflowing into the aisles, stage, social hall, and courtyard, to pay their respects and stand in solidarity. ABC7 News also covered the vigil and interviewed event organizers.

VPS Reports cited the Los Angeles march as the first in the world to demand Justice for Nex Benedict. Over one hundred people marched down Sunset Blvd and Hollywood Blvd to raise visibility for the transgender community.

The surge in hostility and violence targeting transgender individuals is closely linked to the escalation of anti-trans laws and the spreading of hateful messages by conservative media and politicians. This vigil aimed to provide solace, a supportive environment for our community, and to inspire action in confronting discriminatory legislation and attitudes. It is imperative that we demand accountability from politicians for the detrimental impact their policies are inflicting on our youth.

The organizers created a list of demands that Shane Ivan Nash shared on social media yesterday afternoon.
